The road was narrow with sweeping curves, unexpected turns, and the occasional up and over, or down and under windy path. Adventurous and challenging, yet creating a yearning for a straightaway where the sunrise is never-ending. Where looking in the rear view mirror is as exhilarating as focusing on the highway ahead.

Under breezy skies I sit amongst gently falling leaves. I am content to rest in His peace and write of His unending faithfulness. Three years ago we, The PeaceMakers, were just a whisper from a heavenly voice calling up a purpose given over 30 years ago. We gathered with others, sifted the motives and ambitions of those eagerly with us and started our road-trip of reconciliation between law enforcement and the community.

When you share close space with another, you inevitably learn whether they’re genuinely with you. A little adversity unveils much on the condition of the heart, and if it’s deceitful there’s no comfy blanket to cuddle in and hide from its destruction. A couple unexpected turns and our trip was stopped by corrupted hearts; and we found ourselves driving a bus we believed we had little qualifications to drive.

Once we parted ways with our wayward companions we started on a straight road which strangely turned to a swerving path with little to see or enjoy. Uncertainty and bickering somehow hitched hiked their way onto the bus and we found ourselves on a tread-milled road; constantly moving but slowly going nowhere. Now one of us reminded the rest of the Spirit we were warned to not forget. The Helper promised us by Christ. A reevaluation of our roles and purpose took place. A resetting of our eyes toward God, an asking of forgiveness, a daily reading of the Bible roadmap, an invite for the Holy Spirit to join us, teach us, lead us, and bind us together, and the journey started to be fruitful and fulfilling.

Now, I can’t help but marvel how, “If we are faithless, He remains faithful, for He cannot deny Himself (2 Tim2:13).” God did not abandon us when we unintentionally and mistakenly brought deceit along for the ride. He remained faithful to His calling. He protected us and when we called Him to lead, he did without scolding or without hesitation, and he instructed us how to drive. He increased our number tenfold with amazing servants and workers and He began to fill our storehouses with His riches.

Shortly we’re meeting with our second Community Project Love scholarship awardee. Like the first awardee this young man is a blessing of our Lord’s faithfulness to himself, to The PeaceMakers, to us the servants, the community members, the donors, and the one yet to experience the fullness of Christ. We are excited to enter this journey of mentorship to instruct, to encourage, and to love this student just as Christ loves us. And we are eager to experience His faithfulness together.

When the day is long and the eyes are weary there’s nothing more encouraging than coming up on an affirming road sign that tells you your destination is near. Nothing better than to see it with loved ones and friends.“Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful.” The road ahead is promising. ~ LZ
